Family Favorite Fried Rice

It seems that there are endless options when it comes to fried rice.

White or brown rice?

Which vegetables to add?

How to cook it?

What meat to add?

What sauce is best?

In our family, we keep dinner time VERY SIMPLE.

Simple food tastes better and leaves us with more time to be with each other outside of the kitchen.

As with most of our recipes, it is simple enough that we have taught our kids how to make this and they can make it from start to finish.

Over the years we have tried countless versions of this recipe and this is how we like it best!

Start cooking  your white or brown rice in your family rice cooker.

I highlight this rice cooker because it has settings for both white and brown rice.

Bonus Tip: For the perfect steamed white rice, mix one and one half cups short grain white rice with two and three-fourths cups of water in the cooker.

We double that for our large family (three cups short grain white rice plus five and a half cups water).

Chop celery stalks and saute in butter.

Bonus Tip: Always buy the Snack Packed celery bags at the store.

They are greener, sweeter, and ready to chop.

When the celery is mostly done cooking, crack eggs on top of celery and scramble them all together.

Once the eggs are cooked, add bacon bits and gently mix them in.

Bonus Tip: You can add any type of cooked meat here that your family likes such as ham chunks, teriyaki beef chunks, seasoned shredded pork, or even Spam chunks.

Be creative and try new variations each time you make it!

Steam veggies of your choice.

Bonus Tip: We love to use Birdseye Frozen Mixed Vegetables but you can chop and steam any of your favorite vegetables to add.

Prepare sauce of your choice.

Bonus Tip: I love using my mom’s teriyaki sauce recipe because it is simple and fast.

Blend one and a half cups of sugar with one cup of Kikkoman Soy Sauce in small saucepan and heat just to a boil, stirring constantly once it heats up.

*Make sure not to leave it unattended or it will boil over. As soon as it just starts to boil,  remove it from heat and whisk for two minutes or until it cools down enough that it doesn’t boil over.

That’s it for the sauce, it is so simple!

Once the rice is done cooking, add scrambled eggs and celery, steamed veggies, bacon bits, and teriyaki sauce and gently mix.

Serve with egg rolls or your choice of entree, or just serve it by itself!

This makes fabulous leftovers for lunch the next day, if there is anything left!

My husband loves fried rice and egg rolls and requests this dinner as often as I will let him 😉

We hope your family enjoys this recipe as much as ours does!

Yum this looks so easy and I bet its a lot healthier than take out. Going to add this to our menu soon.

I have never found take out, dine in, or a recipe that was this simple and yummy. You can always omit the eggs if you have a child with an egg allergy Ü

This looks so good! Gonna be honest, I will probably opt to leave the celery out though. My husband may hate me if I trick him into eating it haha!

Haha, I completely understand! I absolutely detest celery (fresh or cooked) in everything except this recipe and one other recipe. Ironically, they are both recipes my mom has made since I was little so I guess the taste grew on my for this specific recipe. The best thing about this fried rice is how versatile it is, so feel free to change up any of the vegetables and it will still turn out FABULOUS!
