Sumptuous Berry Banana Smoothies

It’s easy to cool down in summer or beat the wintertime blues with this sumptuous smoothie recipe!

This is our family’s secret weapon against illness because it contains so many antioxidants and vitamins.

That means we tend to make them more in the wintertime when fresh produce is not in season and illness is more abundant because we are all indoors more.

Please note that you can add or substitute almost anything for these smoothie ingredients so get your imagination thinking about what you can add to your family’s smoothie tonight!

Bonus Tip: Smoothies are a great way to use up leftover fruits and vegetables.

I love to toss in some fresh or frozen baby spinach or any other fruit and veggie odds and ends that need to get used.

Enjoy cleaning out your refrigerator and freezer again!

Start by adding frozen berries and banana chunks to the blender.

Bonus Tips: I like to use Dole’s Mixed Berries with Pomegranate for a huge kick of antioxidants.

I also like to use bananas that are definitely ripe (not green at all).

It helps the taste and texture of your smoothies tremendously.

I also like to add some yogurt (regular or Greek) and Chia seeds for some extra fiber and protein.

Bonus Tip: If you add yogurt to the smoothie you likely will not need any other sweetener.

If you opt not to add yogurt you may want to add a small amount of sugar or other sweetener, depending on how sweet the berries are.

Frozen berries can sometimes be quite sour so always make your smoothie to taste.

You can add other things to help the taste too, like organic applesauce or orange juice.

Add milk until the blender can incorporate everything smoothly.

Blend at high speed until smoothie is completely blended.

Bonus Tip: Serve and drink immediately for best results.

If it must sit in the blender for a few minutes, blend it for a few seconds again before serving.

This smoothie pairs well with….. EVERYTHING!

It can be a drink, dessert, snack or entree depending on what you put in and what time of day it is but we love it best served with dinner.

As always, we encourage parents to include children in meal preparation.

Having them help in the kitchen provides them valuable experience practicing life skills and an opportunity to contribute.

They are also way more likely to eat something if they helped prepare it.

We hope you and your family have fun and create great memories together while trying different variations of these Sumptuous Smoothies!
